This small circular route is fully inserted in the geosite and protected area for resource management of the Caldeira de Guilherme Moniz, characterized by the Macaronesian scrub and peat bogs that ensure the recharge of the aquifers of this volcanic complex, which is about 23 thousand years old.
On this route it is possible to see printed on the ground the relheiras of the Passagem das Bestas, engraved in the rock by the rolling of thousands of ox carts that for centuries came to the boiler to fetch firewood.
Along the trail, it is possible to see the largest caldera in the Azores, between the Ribeirinha and Serra do Cume mountains, the collapse caldera of the Cinco Picos volcano with an average diameter of 7 kilometers, as well as the Terra Brava and the interior of the Guilherme Moniz caldera.
