This trail starts in Malha Grande, in the water zone above the parish of Biscoitos. It is a circular circuit that starts on a lapilli path (small stones of volcanic origin), flanked by species of endemic flora, such as the Laurel (Laurus azorica), Azorean heather (Erica azorica) and Azores Juniper (Juniperus brevifolia), passing through stony soils and watercourses flanked by cryptomeria. The wooded area ends in a clearing from where you can contemplate the crater of Pico Alto. Continuing along the cliff, one reaches the highest point of Rocha do Chambre – Juncal (704m). This area, rich in endemic vegetation, is also known for its trachytic domes, which belong to the Biscoito da Ferraria and Pico Alto protected area. The descending route is made by walking through agricultural pastures, passing at the end through a path lined with heather until you find the starting point of the trail.
